Hammond is a member of the Recover Rochester club, a volunteer based organization that aims to collect left over food from restaurants and food vendors and deliver it to homeless shelters and soup kitchens. Hammond and a partner (two, depending on the size of the donation) retrieve food from freezers in the kitchen of Gracie's, place them in coolers, check their inventory/delivery list and transport the food to the shelter. There are about 35 volunteers in the club and a typical delivery is 60-100 pounds. Sam, an electrical engineering major is running for the treasurer position within the club. "I want to get more involved in the club, and I can't deliver all the time." As treasurer, if elected, Hammond will handle fundraising, purchases, and raising money for coolers as well as maintaning the supplies.
